Weekend Projects

What a wonderful weekend we had! My in-laws came to visit this weekend and helped us complete a few projects on our to do list! Things are slowly but surely getting finished around here and we love this house more and more every single day!

Chris worked Thursday night so Friday was a pretty lazy day around the house. We straightened up and got ready for company. There were several things going on in Cartersville on Saturday: a fundraiser for the Humane Society, a Relay for Life fundraiser downtown, and artifacts day at the Etowah Indian Mounds. We had planned to stop in at these events but the rain kind of put a damper on our plans.

We ate a midday meal at our favorite Mexican restaurant, wandered the aisles at Lowe's, and spent the rest of the evening hanging out at home. This morning we had a delicious breakfast at a local place, Martin's, before Chris's parents headed home. Chris and I lounged around the house for a while since it was raining outside before heading to the grocery store. We watched Home Alone 2 and Chris made me his delicious hot chocolate. He really does make the best hot chocolate ever! I don't love the rain but I have loved the cool weather this weekend. I am counting down the days until fall, y'all!

Here are some photos of what all we've accomplished this weekend:

I've been searching for a small shelf to put above my sink in our bathroom. The problem is, all of them have been too big and would be in the way. I found this small one on clearance at Lowe's for $13 (regular $34) and it is exactly what I was looking for!

Chris also hung my new make-up mirror. I found this mirror at Ikea a while back for $5 and I love it even more than I thought I would. I use it every day!

We finally put up shelves over the toilet in our bathroom! You can never have too many shelves or too much storage in a bathroom! Home ownership rule #1, y'all! This is the perfect place to keep our towels and other odds and ends. This is how it looks today, but I can assure you it won't last!

Excuse the dark photo - there is hardly any light in this little room!

We've been considering putting some numbers on our front door but haven't gotten around to it. While we were at Lowe's picking out shelving, I found these letters on a clearance table for $2 so I pounced on them! I am so glad I did! I love the way they look from the street.

I told you I have fall fever - I made this mesh wreath earlier in the week and couldn't resist putting it up!

I found this little garden cart last spring at the neatest junk shop in Dalton. It was faded black and blue when I bought it so I painted it red to add a little color to our bland front porch! Now I just need something to put on it. (Don't miss my little helper in the window!)

You've probably seen this sign before - it's the sign my sister and dad made for our wedding. It's been sitting in the basement and I couldn't stand it anymore! I love looking at it every time I walk out on the porch. Its temporary home is in between the hydrangeas my dad rooted for me. They are cuttings off of my grandmother's bush and I'm waiting to plant them this fall.

I couldn't get a very good picture but I stained this bench and put it out on the front porch. My dad built it years and years ago and I always loved it. I talked him into letting me have it for the new house! This is only one coat of stain so it needs at least one more. The blue potted plant is a cutting from a snowball bush from my grandmother's house.

My dad and grandpa built this swing together for my Meme. It's at least fifteen years old but it was inside so it's in great shape. I used a semi-transparent stain and sealant so hopefully it will stay that way! It's under our back deck so it's mostly out of the rain. We've already had a couple of fires out here and I'm anxiously awaiting cooler weather so we can have more.

The Farmer's Market is wrapping up but we still picked up a few goodies! This gorgeous bouquet of flowers had to come home with us since we were having guests. We also bought some peaches and some apple butter that I cannot wait to try out!

And, of course, one last picture of Darla cat for good measure!

While the weather may have been less than ideal, we didn't let it ruin our weekend. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend like we did!

I hope your Monday is bright and cheerful no matter the weather today. I'm off to see one of my best friends, Jade, and her new baby girl, Kate! Babies, babies, everywhere!

  1. I'm loving both sets of new shelving in the bathroom! Very pretty. Also adore the new house numbers. One thing I love about our place is it came with a large rock in the corner of the front yard with our house number painted on it!

  2. GRRRRR...We have a little toilet closet just like that (only ours doesn't actually have a door, but it's set back just like yours) and I have been begging my husband to put up shelves like that for months!!! Still hasn't happened, but now I see yours and I'm going to start nagging hardcore again. I NEED that space!! Also...I want to move onto your front porch and live there forever. The blue door! The plants! The decor! The rocking chairs! HEAVEN.

    1. The shelves are even more useful than I imagined! And we did them on the cheap so that's even better! Thanks for the encouragement on the porch. I haven't been too happy with it lately so I'm trying to dress it up!
