Foggy fall mornings

As of right now I am halfway through substituting a sixth grade maternity leave. This weekend is our fall break and just like the regular classroom teachers, I needed this break. I'm a collaborative teacher and it has run me ragged, y'all!

Chris has officially entered his busiest time of year: "the outage." Dun, dun, dunnn... Twice a year his plant closes down for maintenance and he generally works 10+ hours a day, six days a week. The fall outage always seems worse than the spring one because we tend to have more going on this time of year anyway.

Friday was his last day off until next Sunday so we had a date night and ran some errands. Then I got up early Saturday morning to head to my parents house in Clarkesville for the long weekend since I haven't been home in a month or so. It was super foggy so I went outside to take some pictures of our Maple tree because it's probably about as colorful as it's going to get. The leaves are dropping more and more so I wanted to get a couple of pictures before I left in case it looked worse by the time I got back. It looked so pretty in the fog!

So neat, but so eery!

Man, I just love fall! I can't wait to post some pictures of the house since we decorated for Halloween!

Dad's Hall Tree

I've posted some of my dad's projects on here before and I have several on deck to be posted soon. My dad has been a busy little worker bee over the past few months! I swear everything he touches turns to gold and this is no exception.

A couple of months ago he built this hall tree to donate to United Way for their annual fundraiser. He usually gives them a wooden chest but he found this idea on Pinterest and got to work! They sold raffle tickets and raffled it off last week. It's been in my parent's foyer for the past few months and we are really missing it now that it is gone!

He bought an old door and an old bed at Habitat for Humanity and fastened them together (I'm making that sound much easier than it was). The door didn't come with a knob so we found this one at a flea market and we love the character it added to the door. The seat is made from some old slats that came with the bed and my favorite part is the scalloped edge he added to it. He added extra finials and I love how it turned out! I would have loved to have it but I guess it's okay since it was for a good cause!

Isn't it the neatest thing? Just wait until you see what he gave me today...

Two peas in a pod!

Our kittens have officially become best friends! I was so worried when we first brought Augusta (now going by Gus) home. I've had Darla since she was teeny and I was so worried she would never recover. Thankfully, it didn't take too long for the two of them to learn to love each other.

They are both still around six months old so they are still in the kitten stage. This means lots of messes, toys, fighting, and running all over the house! This got ugly at first but they aren't nearly as rough as they once were. They've been spayed and neutered so they are getting nice and chunky and love to nap! There is much more time spent lounging nowadays!

They are always at the garage door to meet us when we get home...
They love playing in their water bowl...
They love laying on the back of the chair together...
They have to know about everything you are eating...
And we love them to pieces!

First time seeing each other

The first time they laid in the same spot together

What do they have in common? Annoying their mom when she's working on crafts!

Getting cozier and cozier...

Their new favorite spot!

They are both laying right behind me as I type! How do people live without pets?

Y'all know where this is going... go adopt a shelter pet today! You won't be sorry :)

Sweet friends

Last night I went to a girl friend's wedding in Forest Park. Weddings are always so sweet and it's so good to get to see my Athens girls again. Since I'm the only one who lives on the west side of the state, I don't get to see them as often as I'd like and boy do I miss their beautiful faces!

We all met because we were in the same education cohort at UGA. This meant we spent a lot of time together and we all just fit together so well. These girls are so special to me and will always have a special place in my heart!

Morgen's wedding was beautiful and she was a gorgeous bride! Sarah just got engaged last week so our next wedding is already in the works and I couldn't be more excited for her! Time keeps moving on, huh?

6 months!

No, don't be confused. No one is pregnant, there are no children to be six months old. I'm just obsessed with my kitten and treat her like she's my baby! According to Darla's adoption paperwork, she was born on March 31st so she's just turned six months old!

She was just a teensy little baby when we got her and I still don't know when or how she got so big! She was pretty sickly when we brought her home but once we wiped out those URI's she's been just fine! She's still really small for her age so we think she's just going to be a small cat. But she's full of spunk and personality!

Happy half birthday to our Darla girl!

There's no love like the love of an adopted pet! There are too many animals without homes that are being put to sleep every day. Go to your local shelter and save a life today! You'll be glad you did!
